How to remove dependencies when you delete a solution manually in CRM

When you try to delete a solution, it will show you an error message if there are any dependencies.

To solve this issue, please follow the steps below.

Copy the GUID from the error log which is retrieved from the error message.

The line in the logfile will look like this:

openStdWin(“\x2ftools\x2fdependency\x2fdependencyviewdialog.aspx\x3fobjectid\x3d\x25…GUID…\x257d\…)

You will need its GUID value for the next step.

In case that the logfile does not contain this line, open the CRM solution in the web browser in order to access its URL. It will look similar to this:

http://crm:5555/test/tools/solution/edit.aspx?id=%7b1D7AC833-2B26-4C49-92D1-B17C94B2750C%7d

The GUID is the value after the equal sign ("%7b" and "%7d" are encoded brackets)

Now navigate to the following URL:

https://YOUR CRM URL/tools/dependency/dependencyviewdialog.aspx?objectid=GUID&objecttype=7100&operationtype=dependenciesforuninstall

Replace the "YOUR CRM URL" with your own CRM system's URL and replace the GUID with the GUID retrieved from the above steps.

You will be provided with a list of dependencies, which you can manually remove from your system now.

How to upgrade to MS CRM 2015

This article provides a step-by-step upgrade path of our solutions to the new MS CRM 2015 release!

From MS CRM 2013

Request License: To run our addons on MS CRM 2015, you need to request a license for the CRM 2015 version of our solution.
Upgrades of MS CRM are covered with our support & maintenance.
Thus, every customer with a valid support contract can go ahead and request a license by sending an email including the unique CRM organization unit name

Check currently installed version
DocumentsCorePack: If you are using DocumentsCorePack please ensure that the server component is on v 6.8 or higher.

Upgrade your CRM instance to MS CRM 2015!
Download the CRM 2015 version of our solution

Install CRM 2015 version of our solution
Once you start the installer it will detect the currently installed version and perform an upgrade automatically. You will not loose any configuration during this process!
Install new License
Finally you will need to install the new license using the LicenseManager that comes with the installation of our solution (accessible via the Start Menu or Installation folder)

FROM CRM 2011

Microsoft requires to upgrade to CRM 2013 prior to being able to upgrade to CRM 2015. This being said, you will need to upgrade our solutions to CRM 2013 too before you can proceed with your Upgrade to CRM 2015 as above described.

Upgrade paths from MS CRM 2011 to MS CRM 2013

SmartBar is THE exception when it comes to upgrades previous to CRM 2013, because SmartBar was known as RecordCounter before. RecordCounter did not have as many functionalities as SmartBar, thus, it does not work with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013!
This means, if you want to upgrade the RecordCounter to SmartBar (CRM 2013), you simply have to deinstall it. Click here to get an overview how to deinstall RecordCounter.

After the deinstallation you can install SmartBar for CRM 2013. Up from that version, the update for SmartBar is similar to the above described process.

How do I upgrade form CRM 4.0?

Certificate Changes in an IFD environment

This blog article explains what to do if one of the certificates has changed in the IFD environment. If so, our products require additional steps in order to work again.

This issue can occur with two different certificates:

1) SSL certificate
2) Token Signing certificate

1) How to react in case of the SSL certificate

First of all, you need to rerun the IFD-wizard and select the correct certificates (since in the web.config your old certificates are still cached).

Next, please update the Relying Party Trust with the new Federation Meta Data URL which has been created in the IFD Wizard previously.

If this does not work correctly, you will need to delete and recreate the relying party trust for our product on the ADFS Server.

Then, specify the Federation Metadata URL, which was created by the IFD Wizard and click on the [Next]-button.

Next, please specify a display name and click on the [Next]-button.

Then check the Permit all users to access this relying party-option and click on the [Next]-button.

Please check if everything looks alright and then click on the [Next]-button.

After you have finished working with the Add Relying Party Trust-Wizard, the Rules Editor appears.
There, click on the [Add Rule]-button.

Should the Editor not open automatically, please right-click the relying party object you have created before in the Relying Party Trust list, click on the [Edit Claims Rules]-button and then click on the [Add Rule]-button.

Please note: It is of upmost importance that the Issuance Transform Rules-tab is selected. In the Claim rule template list, select Pass Through or Filter an Incoming Claim template and then click on the [Next]-button.

Create the following rule:

Claim rule name: Pass Through UPN (or something descriptive)
Add the following mapping:

1. Incoming claim type: UPN

2. Pass through all claim values

Click on the [Finish]-button.

In the Rules Editor, click on the [Add Rule]-button and in the Claim rule template list, click on Pass Through or Filter an Incoming Claim Template. Click on the [Next]-button in order to proceed.

Claim rule name: Pass Through Primary SID (or something descriptive)
Add the following mapping:

1. Incoming claim type: Primary SID

2. Pass through all claim values

Click on the [Finish]-button.

In the Rules Editor, click on the [Add Rule]-button.

In the Claim rule template list, select Transform an Incoming Claim Template and then click on the [Next]-button in order to continue.

Now create the following rule:

Claim rule name: Transform Windows Account Name to Name (or something descriptive)
Add the following mapping:

1. Incoming claim type: Windows account name

2. Outgoing claim type: Name

3. Pass through all claim values

Click on the [Finish]-button and as soon as you have created all three rules, click on the [OK]-button in order to close the Rules Editor.

2) How to react in case of the Token Signing certificate

Please replace the old thumbprint of the Token Signing Certificate in the web.config with the thumbprint from your new Token Signing Certificate. As soon as you have replaced it, click on the [OK]-button in order to proceed.
Please note: Do not copy the thumbprint from here, type it of instead (there are hidden characters inside this string-value which can not be deleted).

Thank you for joining us at this year’s exhibitions at the eXtremeCRM in Anaheim, USA and the Convergence EMEA in Barcelona Spain! It was a pleasure meeting you there!

As we arrived two days earlier, we did not hesitate to start discovering the beautiful city during a sightseeing tour, visiting some of the most famous sights:

We didn’t miss to take a walk at the colorful Venice Beach where we enjoyed the special spirit of this part of L.A.

Driving around Los Angeles with nothing but sunshine and cloudless sky gave us a kind of holiday feeling.

Never the less we started very early the next day and set up our booth at the eXtremeCRM to present our addons to new customers and already known business-partners!

The next stop after checking in at the hotel was visiting the famous basilica Sagrada Família. We where stunned by this World Cultural Heritage and also by the endless queue around it.

After that experience we wanted to go somewhere less crowded so we decided to walk throug the fabulous Güell parc – Gudís well-made tribute to the nature. After getting to know the city, we were excited about joining and enjoying the Convergence.

Next day we started to set up our booth and to prepare for presenting our powerful addons for MS CRM 2011 and the brandnew CRM 2013 to the audience.

The Convergence was an awesome experience for us. After our arrival in New Orleans and before throwing ourselves into the Cornvergence-fray, we did not hesitate to explore the beautiful city during our sightseeing tour. We enjoyed New Orleans by having a walk through the famous French quarter and by a boat tour through the swampland including impressive and very close meetings with alligators.

Addon-Update Behaviour (valid for builds from 1st March 2013 and beyond)

When you launch an upgrade installation of our products, the setup will update existing files and solutions in CRM. The default behaviour of upgrading a product installation has changed with all releases after 1st of March, 2013.

Running an upgrade of our products updates existing solutions in CRM according to the following rules:

When you start an upgrade, you will be prompted with the Connection Dialog. When you select a specific organisation on the Connection Dialog, like alist in the below example (see figure 1), the installer will update the mscrmaddons.com general solution for the selected organization. As this solution is shared between all our products, this update will affect all of our installed products.

All product-specific solutions will be upgraded for the selected organization only. This behaviour has changed compared to versions built before 1st of March 2013.

Exceptions to the update-behaviour on the selected organization (valid for GroupCalendar and ActivityTools)

In case of an OnPremise- or a Hosted (IFD)-installation, the installer will update all organisations to which the installing user has access to, using the latest versions of the solutions distributed via the release.

This behaviour is mandatory, as the WebApplication is shared between organisations and therefore requires all organizations to use the same solution version.

For all other products, or in case an organisation was not reachable during the installation, you can update specific organisations. You can start the update from within the Installation States-overview (see Figure 2), which has also changed slightly regarding its user interface and functionality as described below:

Per default, the InstallStatus only analyzes the organisation selected in the connection dialog, as analyzing is a rather time consuming process.
Other available organisations have been moved to a dropdown box. Selecting an organization from this menu will start the analysis of the current install-state for the selected organisation only.

Additional information available in the Install States-overview

We also added three new columns which will be populated during the installation (or when you update an existing installation).

These columns show:

the current product version installed and used by that organization
the version of the currently installed mscrmaddons.com general-solution used by that organization
The product-specific CoreSolution used by that organization.

Please note: Existing installations will not display data in these columns.

To simplify the process of upgrading existing installations, we have added an option to multi-select installed organisations and to run an upgrade on all of them (see Figure 4).

As of now, only updating is supported for multi-selection.

Recap: eXtremeCRM 2013 in Rome

Thank you for joining us at the eXtremeCRM 2013 in Rome! It was great meeting you there!

The eXtremeCRM in Rome was an awesome experience for us. Arriving in beautiful Rome with sunshine and mild temperatures around 15 degrees, we checked in to the Rome Marriott Park Hotel and were delighted by the comfortable and beautiful ambience. As we arrived two days earlier, we did not hesitate to start discovering the beautiful city during a sightseeing tour on Saturday, visiting the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Saint Peter’s Cathedral and many more of the impressing sights.

Very motivated and excited about the upcoming event, we started to set up our booth on Sunday. During the official opening on Sunday evening and the following days, we enjoyed very interesting keynotes and sessions providing us with essential and highly valuable information regarding Dynamics CRM and other topics. Gaining these information, we now feel prepared for approaching trends, changes and partner-/customer-requirements.

We also took the great chance to hold our own session showcasing how our products could extend the functionalities of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. The session had a high impact and made even more people come and visit our booth. Thank you for joining and visiting us!

Perform a config change of RecordCounter for MS CRM 2011

The current version of RecordCounter for MS CRM 2011 contains performance updates. These updates will take effect, once the following changes have been made to the config.

This article describes how to do this.

After the upgrade process of RecordCounter has finished, please start the RecordCounterServer Config and connect to your organization.

When the config tool has finished loading, check or uncheck any checkbox of the tree view.
We suggest to take some of the second level ones because they have less impact.

In the below example, we have checked Cases in the entity Contact:

The reason for this is that the Config should notice that there was a change. After a click on the [OK]-button, it will generate the fetches with the new logic again.

Now you only need to restore the old state. After the configuration has closed, start it once more. Now check or uncheck the same entity as before again. After a click on the [OK]-button, you will have the old state with the new fetches.

Please note: If your changes do not take any effect after the configuration has been closed, please restart the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Sandbox Processing Service on the CRM server.

Save modes of RecordCounter for MS CRM 2011

If you hit the [OK]-button on the RecordCounter Server Config first, it will generate and save the fetches and then generate and import the RecordCounterServerConfig-solution.

In some cases it will be helpful to only save the fetches or only to import the solution.

This article describes how this can be achieved.

Make the selection box visible

In the RecordCounter Server Config there is a hidden selection box. If visible, it can be used to select the save mode of the Config. In the following two cases the box will be visible:

1: After you have set a registry value to true

Open the registry on the server on which the RecordCounter is installed and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PTM EDV-Systeme\RecordCounterserver

Add the string value ShowConfigSaveMode with the value true to it.

2: If during the save process an error occurs

After you have hit the [OK]-button, the RecordCounter Server Config will save all settings and import the solution. Once the settings have been saved successfully, and if during the import of the solution occurs an error, the selection box will be shown.
But in this case the save mode is set to SolutionOnly and cannot be changed. The reason for this is that there is no need to save the settings and only the solution needs to be imported again.

Available Save Modes

There are three modes available.

SettingsAndSolution:
Using this mode, the Config will first save all settings, e.g the fetches. The second step is to import the generated RecordCounterServerConfig-solution.

This is the default mode. It will work in 99 percent of all cases.

If the selection box is hidden, this mode is selected.

SettingsOnly:
This mode will only generate and save fetches for the selected entities. Theses fetches will be executed to count the linked records.

SolutionOnly:
This mode will only generate and import the RecordCounterServerConfig-solution. It adds a link to the ptm_LineItemCountOnload-library and executes the StartLineItemCount-function for all selected entities.

Purpose of theses modes

These modes can be very helpful if you, for example, have detected that the entity Account causes a solution importing problem. The reason for that could be that the main entity from Account is unmanaged.
In this case check all entities (Account-entity as well) for which the RecordCounter should be activated. Select the SettingsOnly-mode and hit the [OK]-button. After the process has finished, all necessary settings (like fetches for all selected entities) have been stored.

Therewith, the RecordCounter will start, the ptm_LineItemCountOnload-JavaScript-library must be added and the starting function must be executed. This can be done for all managed entities by using the RecordCounterServerConfig-solution.
As shown in the example, leave the same entities selected, but uncheck the whole Account-entity, as it is causing the problem. Next, select the SolutionOnly-mode. Then start the import process with a click on the [OK]-button again. After the process has finished, the RecordCounter is set up for all entities, except for Account.
Now, the RecordCounter will work for Account as well. You will have to add the library and execute the starting function for it manually. How this can be done is described in the following article.

How to activate Debugging

Within CRM, navigate to Settings [1] > MSCRM-ADDONS.com Products [2] and open the Plugin-record [3].

Select the MSCRM-ADDONS.com Settingskeys [1] and open the debug-setting [2].

Set the KeyValue to true [1] and hit the [Save]-button. From now on debugging is activated.

Access the log files

The log files will be stored in the MSCRM-ADDONS-com Debug-entity. The easiest way to access it is by using the advanced find.

Select the MSCRM-ADDONS-com Debug-entity [1] and include the following condition: Name must Contain LineItemCount [2]. It ensures that only log files of the RecordCounter will be retrieved. Then click on the [Results]-button. [3].

In the next window, use the Add-columns functionality and add the ptm-message-field to the grid.

Next delete all retrieved debug records. Then reproduce the error and refresh the result list of this advanced find. This ensures that you only have the latest and relevant log files.

Select all records and hit Export MSCRM-ADDONS.com Debug [1].

In the next dialog, check Static Worksheet and hit the [Export]-button.

RecordCounter - Plugin Registration Error

If the error message Plugin registration error of PTM Plugins! appears after the installation of RecordCounter, it means that the plugin wasn’t updated successfully. To solve this problem, please follow the instructions of this article.

First, open your CRM > Settings > Solutions. Then press the [Import]-button.

The following dialog appears. Use it to reimport the MSCRMADDONScomGeneral.zip-solution. The file can be found in the installation folder of the RecordCounter Server Config in the subfolder Essentials. After you’ve selected the solution hit the [Next]-button.

Please keep in mind that the current version installed and the version contained in the update have to match. If this is not the case, it seems that you’ve installed a further add-on which includes a newer version of MSCRMADDONScomGeneral.zip. Do not install this version if these do not match. Instead, look into the Essentials-folder of the other addon and search for the latest MSCRMADDONScomGeneral.zip (which matches with the current version installed) and select it.

In this example the versions match and we can continue. Press the [Next]-button in order to proceed.

Now, the following below window (Figure 5) appears. Check Overwrite customizations and press the [Next]-button.

After the import, the error message will not appear anymore.

Execute Fetch from CRM 2011

Sometimes it can happen, that you want to execute a fetch simply to see if it works. And also see the results.

With the attached solution, you have the possibility to execute a fetch. Please note that this solution is not designed to generate fetches!

1. Download the solution and import it into your CRM System ExecuteFetchXML_1_0_0_0_managed.zip (5.35 kb)

2. Open the solution with a double-click.

3. Then you'll find a simple text box and a [Fetch]-button on this form. Just enter your fetch in the textbox and hit the [Fetch]-button and you'll be presented with the fetch result.

How to create a SettingsKey manually in MS Dynamics CRM 2011

Sometimes, you may be asked to create a new settingskey for one of our products. This article outlines how to do so.

1. Open your CRM in the InternetExplorer.

2. Navigate to Settings in the CRM sitemap.

3. Within the settings, navigate to MSCRM-ADDONS.com Products in the Extensions-area of the sitemap.

4. Activate the checkbox in front of the product (1) for which you need to create a new settingskey (in this example TelephoneIntegration) and click on the [Edit]-button.

5. A new window opens. Within this new window, navigate to the MSCRM-ADDONS.com settingskeys of the product in the menu on the left (1) and click on the [Add New MSCRM-ADDONS.com Settingskeys]-button (2).

6. A new window opens. In this window, you have to define the name of the settingskey in the Name-field and its value (true) in the KeyValue-field. Once you have created the new key do not forget to save your settings by clicking on the [Save and Close]-button.

Please note: If the new key is intended for a Client application like DocumentsCorePack or TelephoneIntegration, you need to restart the Client application.
(Otherwise, the changes will not be applied to the client.)

Configure RecordCounter for custom n:n relations

Please note: It is not possible to set up custom n:n-relations by using the tree view of the RecordCounter Server Config!

Instead, you have to use the Configuration Tool. To do so, click on the [Configure RecordCounter]-button to open it.

The following window (Figure 2) will appear. First of all, you must add a new navigation-item to the list in the Navig Item-area. This can be done with a click on the [Add]-button

To find out the right name for the entry, just follow these instructions:
Open a CRM-record, which includes the related entity in the navigation bar.
By pressing the [F12]-button (or Extras -> Developer Tools) the Developer Tool will appear.

Here, click on the cursor in the upper left area of the tool. After that, switch back to CRM and click on the menu item (for which RecordCounter should be configured).
The html-code of that menu item will be displayed and highlighted in the Developer Tool.
Now you only have to search through the highlighted selector for the attribute id. The value of the id is the name of the new config entry.

The next step is to build your custom fetch.
The easiest way to build a fetch is by using a fetch generator, e.g. Stunnware Tools. Additionally, there is a solution available that allows you to execute a fetch directly from CRM. This can be very helpful for testing. The following article describes how this can be used: Link to article.

As main entity for the fetch, select the entity for which you want to enable the RecordCounter. In this case it is product. You must only add the id-attribute to it (productid).
Next, you have to add a link to the parent entity. In our example, we add Contact.

Finally, you have to add a filter and a condition. The reason for this condition is that only records linked with the current parent entity should be counted.
The attribute of the condition has to be the id-attribute of the parent entity. It is contactid in this case. For value type in [GUID]. The RecordCounter will replace it with the calling parent entity-id.

Next, select your new navigation entry in the config and focus the Additional Fetches-area. Click on the [Add]-button

Now the following window will appear. Include your fetch in the Fetch-XML-field.

And add the EntityTypeCode of the parent entity to Fetch-Type. In this example, the parent entity is Contact and its EntityTypeCode is 2.

Click on the [OK]-button in order to proceed.

With a click on the [Save]-button on the config, all settings will be saved and the configuration is completed.

Only if the RecordCounter doesn’t work for the new navigation entry, try to restart the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Sandbox Processing Service on the CRM server.

Configure RecordCounter for unmanaged custom entities

To successfully enable RecordCounter (RC) for unmanaged entities, please follow these instructions:

First, enable RC for the custom entity. Simply check the checkbox in the tree view of the RecordCounter Server Config.

Then open CRM, navigate to Settings and click on Customizations.

Then click on Customize the System. Select your custom entity in the tree view and open the Main-Form. This example is made with the entity Account.

Click on the [Form Properties]-Button then the following dialog will appear. First, you must add the RecordCounter library in the Form Libraries-section. This can be done by clicking on the [Add]-Button and select the ptm_LineItemCountOnload – web resource.

The next step is to focus on the Event Handler-section. Ensure that the Control-list box is set to Form and Event to OnLoad. Then click on the [Add]-Button.

The following dialog will appear.

Here, select the ptm_LineItemCountOnLoad-library. And fill in StartLineItemCount in the textbox next to Function.

Ensure that Enabled is checked.

Now you have nearly finished. You only have to click on the [OK]-Button.

Hit the [Save]-Button and publish the customization.

Please note: When you decide to uninstall the product, those links have to be removed manually as well. They do not harm CRM, but will redirect to dead links, if you leave them in place.

Activate per User licensing

When using per User licensing, it is mandatory to enable all users that should be licensed within CRM. It often occurs, that after installing the license via the License Manager, the below screen appears:

This is due to the fact, that the user (usually an admin), who is running the license-manager is not a licensed user at this point.

To enable this, specific users you will have to follow the below steps.

1) Open the User via CRM->Settings->Administration->Users

2) Set the Per user licensing for [PRODUCT NAME]-bit value to true:
Depending on the installed addons, a Per user licensing-field will be visible on the User form. Here, it is possible to enable users to use our addon (see Figure 3).

When you now restart the licensemanager, you will see that the user-account has changed due to the number of activated users AND, if the admin has been enabled too, the red cross will be gone:

Please note: Its possible to install the license, although the red cross appears in the [Number of user licenses]-row. Therefore its not mandatory to set the admin user itself to true.

How to get the unique organization name for CRM 4.0 and CRM 2011 (RTM / RTW)

When ordering licenses, you will be asked for the organisation unit name of your CRM system. This information is mandatory in order to create a license. Below, you can find a short description about how to get the necessary information for CRM 4.0 / CRM 2011.

CRM 4.0

The organisation unique-name can be found within the deployment manger of MS CRM.(Located on the Server where MS CRM has been installed)

CRM 2011

For CRM 2011 On-Premise (RTM) as well as CRM 2011 Online (RTW), the unique organization name can be found in Settings > Customizations > Developer Resources.

Please note: For CRM 4 as well as CRM 2011, the Unique-name is required. Next to this, our key is case sensitive and will not work if the names don’t fit.
