Insert a static document subtemplate

The insert as static document button is a very useful functionality if it comes to creating templates in DocumentsCorePack Template Designer. Its functionalities can be expanded to insert not only static documents, but also sub-templates. In the course of this article,
you will learn how to do so.

First of all, you need to open two templates, but you could also create two totally new ones.
Learn which fields can be added to a template here.

However, you need one for your main entity and one for your sub-entity. They are the base for all further actions.

Step by Step description on how to create a sub template to a static document

Step 1:
Create the template for your main entity and the sub-entity.
(In our example, the main template is based on the entity Account and the sub-template is based on the entity Contact.)

Step 2:
Build up a relationship between the entity of the sub template and the main template. To do so, open the DocumentsCorePack Template Designer with a click on
the [Insert MailMerge Fields]-button, switch to the Additional tab and click on Add Relationship/Entity. There, select All contacts.

Figure 1: DocumentsCorePack Template Designer

Step 3:
Now navigate to the Insert Button > Insert Static Item > Static Document within the Template Designer. The following dialog will pop up:

Figure 2: Static document properties

Within the Static Document-dialog,

- Select the GUID field of the related record.
(in our example, this is Contact ID
- Check the checkbox next to Provide the selected field as Parameter in order to enable
the sub-template to be merged with the GUID.
- Click on the [Select Document]-button in order to select the static document you would like to insert
- Click on the [OK]-button in order to proceed.

If you go back to your main template, you will note that the following field has been added to it:

Figure 3: Main template - additional field

Congratulations! You have created your very first static sub-template!
Our result looks like this in the merged template:

Figure 4: Result

Please note:

  • If a sub document is inserted within a table some limitations of Word apply. Elements and controls that are part of the sub document which can not be part of a table might cause unexcpected behaviour. (e.g. page breaks)
  • A sub document does not work when it is inserted in the header or footer section of template

Recap: CRMUG European Congress 2016

There are no strangers here; only friends you haven't met yet.

- William Butler Yeats

Figure 1: CRMUG Gold sponsorship

With CRMUG European Congress 2016 in Stuttgart, the CRMUG congress took place on the European continent for the very first time.

When we arrived in Stuttgart we were really excited. To be frank, we did not know what to expect from the congress. Would it be a great event or an organizational desaster? Everything could have happened.

However, the event turned out to be amazing, full of great people and - because it was yet not as known as eg the long-established congresses - it reminded us of our beginnings. From the very first moment we knew that being a GoldSponsor for this event had been a great decision.

During the – nearly familiar atmosphere – we managed to talk to lots of great people, as for example Gustaf Westerlund. We also had the opportunity to listen to the outstanding sessions held by MVPs like Adam Vero & Scott Durow.

Also, we were so fascinated by the rise of this amazing event that we even forgot to take fotos Winking smile. But we managed to make one of our booth before it was overrun by people:

Figure 2: Our booth at CRMUG in Stuttgart

Anyway, we have already decided that we will participate again next year. All in all, it was a well organized event. Of course, there were some teething troubles, but there were less than we expected to be and so we knew:

There is every reason to ask a great deal from CRMUG Congress 2017! We’ll be back!

Boolean Fields in DocumentsCorePack

With version 7.106 or higher of DocumentsCorePack Client, its users are enabled to use an extended functionality, the so called Boolean Fields. Boolean fields are, for example, all the Do not allow…-fields.

To learn if a field has the full functionalities of a boolean field, simply move the cursor over the field and you will be provided with all the information regarding to the field.
We have selected the Do not allow Mails-field as an example.

Figure 1: Field information

Up to version 7.106, users would only be able to insert Yes/No, True/False or 1/0 values, but with the boolean fields, they can decide whether they want to insert a checkbox instead.

Anyway, whenever you insert a Boolean field, you will be asked if you want to insert the field as a checkbox. Should you require basic information on how to insert a field, please click here.

Figure 2: DocumentsCorePack question box

When you click on the [YES]-button, a checkbox will be inserted into the field.

Figure 3: Inserted checkbox with value

Once merged, the status of the check box corresponds to the CRM value.
